Spinal CSF leaks: mimicker of primary headache disorder in a child.

چکیده
Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) due to spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks is becoming increasingly recognized as a cause of headache in adults.1 A combination of minor trauma and developmentally ‘weak’ meninges has been considered to be responsible for some cases.1,2 There is also an association with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, neurofibromatosis type 1, Marfan and the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes.1-3 The onset of symptoms is typically in the fourth or fifth decade of life, females being more affected than males. Childhood presentation in the absence of Marfan syndrome is rare,4 and the diagnosis can be challenging, as illustrated by our case report.

Connective tissue disorders with spontaneous spinal cerebrospinal fluid leaks and intracranial hypotension: a prospective study.
OBJECTIVE Intracranial hypotension attributable to a spontaneous spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak is an increasingly recognized cause of postural headaches. The cause of these leaks is poorly understood, but it is likely multifactorial and may involve a primary connective tissue disorder. We undertook a study to estimate the contribution of systemic connective tissue disorders to the devel...
متن کاملSpontaneous spinal cerebrospinal fluid leaks and intracranial hypotension.
CONTEXT Spontaneous intracranial hypotension is caused by spontaneous spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and is known for causing orthostatic headaches. It is an important cause of new headaches in young and middle-aged individuals, but initial misdiagnosis is common. OBJECTIVE To summarize existing evidence regarding the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of spontan...
متن کاملFloating dural sac sign is a sensitive magnetic resonance imaging finding of spinal cerebrospinal fluid leakage.
We would like to propose floating dural sac sign, which is observed as a hyperintense band or rim around the spinal dural sac on axial T2-weighted images, as a sensitive sign to identify cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage. One hundred patients with orthostatic headache were prospectively registered in 11 hospitals. These patients were examined by brain magnetic resonance (MR) imaging (n = 89), r...
متن کاملThe Relief of Unilateral Painful Thoracic Radiculopathy without Headache from Remote Spontaneous Spinal Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak
Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) caused by spontaneous spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks produces orthostatic headaches. Although upper arm pain or paresthesia is reportedly associated with SIH from spontaneous spinal CSF leak in the presence of orthostatic headache, low thoracic radicular pain due to spontaneous spinal CSF leak unassociated with postural headache is extremely ra...
متن کاملSymptom predictors of cerebrospinal fluid leaks.
BACKGROUND Spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, which are considered a cause of intracranial hypotension, generally do not cause any local symptoms. Although symptoms are key elements for further evaluation, few studies have examined symptom predictors of intracranial hypotension. The aim of this study was to determine what symptoms are predictors of CSF leaks in patients suspected of intrac...
